how does a candle warmer help prolong the candle life?
Q. whats the differance in burning time between using a candle warmer and lighting the wick of a candle. I don't see how the candle would last longer with a warmer.
Asked by Erica - Fri Oct 26 11:55:37 2007 - Decorating & Remodeling - 3 Answers - Comments

A. A candle warmer uses heat to warm/melt a candle. Using this method instead of the wick & flame allows the entire candle to be used. A flame can never really burn the entire candle. In addition, a candle warmer results in a purer smell, undiluted by the smell of smoke and burning.

How do I get candle wax out of carpet?
Q. I was burning a dark purple candle yesterday on our fireplace. I got up just for about 2 minutes to empty the dishwasher and I see that the candle overflowed somehow onto the white carpet. It's a berber, if that helps. Is it true that i can put down papertowels and run a warm iron over it?
Asked by Rock Goddess - Mon Jun 12 09:41:51 2006 - Other - Home & Garden - 18 Answers - Comments

A. get a brown paper bag from your grocery store - maybe several. place the brown bag over the wax and then place a iron on the highest setting on the bag. move in a circular motion. the heat gets the wax soft and the paper bag absorbs the wax. replace the bag often and do this all long as you need to remove all the wax. this really works!!! good luck to you!!!

How do you get candle wax out of carpet and a pair of jeans?
Q. Had a blackout last night and accidentally knocked over a candle. I got four, little spots of red candle wax on my rather expensive jeans, but the carpet took the worst beating. Any advice? I left the wax on the carpet alone, so it is still hard, and three dimensional. I freaked out about my jeans though. I quickly wiped the wax off, which left a stain. Would the ice cube / iron trick still work?
Asked by 1O Caie - Wed Mar 4 09:47:19 2009 - Cleaning & Laundry - 10 Answers - Comments

A. If there's any residue after the ice, try putting a brown paper bag over the wax. Take a warm iron, not hot, and press over the bag. The residue should be picked up by the brown paper. You can remove any red dye with some rubbing alcohol.

What is the stem of a candle made of and are there any special effects that occur when it melts?
Q. I have been observing a lit candle, and all I see is wax melting to liquid form and when the candle is blown, it turns back to wax. But I dont see any 'Chemical properties'. also is the stem made of only cloth and wax?Or are there other substances such as fuel?
Asked by eldin_sunsdrider - Thu Apr 2 05:24:17 2009 - Other - Science - 1 Answers - Comments

A. The center of a candle is some rope. The wax turns liquid because of the heat of the flame (just like ice melts). The wax is then absorbed by the rope (which also isn't a chemical reaction), and is burnt at the tip of the rope. The fire removes the wax from the tip, but the removed wax is immediately replenished by the wax being absorbed. Because of that, the candle keeps on burning. The wax is the fuel, and there is no need for other chemicals.

What kind of candle to use for smoke painting?
Q. When you light a candle and hold it under your canvas so you literally paint with the smoke. I was wondering what kind of candle should I use, since I assume not all candles work. Something tells me a scented candle wouldn't give me the affect I'm looking for. Is there a special one I need to get the smoke to really show up?

How much candle lights is required to operate a 205 watt solar panel?
Q. How much candle lights is required to operate a 205 watt solar panel?
Asked by Nsarp - Wed Jul 20 23:29:58 2011 - Engineering - 2 Answers - Comments

A. That's hard to tell. A solar panel produces somewhere between 7 and 10W per square foot under sunlight exposure. You should calculate the light intensity of sunlight, and then calculate the light intensity of a candle (You'll have to look that up in some physics book or the internet) and then just multiply the number of candles until you match the intensity of sunlight. Realistically, you would need so many candles that you wouldn't be able to fit them in front of the solar panels, assuming you don't end up with a huge fireball.

How can I stop my candle from putting itself out?
Q. I have a candle that is white tea and it smells sooo good! I try to burn the wick and everytime that I do it the melted wax puts out the fire. I want to keep it burning or find some way so I can smell my candle.
Asked by Brigit B - Sat Mar 22 17:27:06 2008 - Other - Home & Garden - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Is the wick too short? Also, is it around any drafts? I would check those things. If the wick is too short, maybe trying to cut out a bit of the wax around the wick may help. That has worked for me in the past. Mmm, a white tea candle sounds nice.

A. You could use empty tins or cans by taking the labels off and punching holes in with a nail and hammer. Draw a design on them first and punch in the holes. Fill the cans with sand and cover it with something to keep the sand in place, like a plastic lid of some sort, before you punch the holes. It looks great on the wall or even just standing. You can use all sorts of can sizes. Good luck...

How do i burn a yankee Candle in an potpourri pot?
Q. My mother in law gave me a potpourri pot for these wax candles that are called Yankee Candle (many different scents) And she never cleaned it out, so i was wondering if i had to clean it out to put a new one in? Also if i do have to clean it out,how do i do that? I've never used this before so i really don't know what i'm doing.
Asked by Crystal - Mon May 4 16:01:43 2009 - Other - Home & Garden - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Plug it in and melt any remaining wax and pour it into a disposable wax cup and throw it a way after it hardens. Try to wipe out as much remaining residue as much as possible with a paper towel. Then you can try putting it into the freezer (after it cools) and see if you can get the rest of the wax to just flake off. You might want to try vegetable wax tarts in the future instead of paraffin wax tarts- the residue usually cleans up a lot easier with just hot soapy water.

How long does a Yankee Candle scent last on a warmer?
Q. I just bought a 22 oz Yankee Candle and I have a jar warmer that it would fit into; how long will the scent last before it wears out? I don't want to use it up quickly - I would just burn the candle as originally intended if it will last longer. Anybody know?
Asked by Snowflake - Tue Sep 18 12:10:23 2007 - Decorating & Remodeling - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Dont use the warmer. I did with my Yankee candle, it took hours for the wax to burn enough to produce a scent, and each time you want to use it, you start over, leaving it melt for many hours before it puts out a scent. Then the candle is ruined because the wick is gone. Just burn it normally, keep in fridge until ready to burn, it will last longer. NEVER blow out the candle.
