How do you transfer your bookmarks and RSS feeds from Firefox to a portable version of Firefox?
Q. I have a portable version of Firefox on an external drive and I'd like to export my current Firefox settings form my laptop Firefox to it. Is this possible?
Asked by b down - Mon Jul 26 20:46:04 2010 - Software - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Xmarks is the best Firefox extension for ongoing synchronizing Bookmarks as well as passwords and even currently open tabs across different computers. Can't help with RSS feeds since I use My Yahoo for that.

How do I save my Firefox bookmarks when getting a new computer?
Q. I'm getting a new computer but don't want to lose my Firefox bookmarks. Is there an easy way to save a record of all the URLs in my Bookmarks and then quickly upload them to Firefox on my new computer?

A. Bookmarks... -> Organize Bookmarks opens a new window, click on Import and Backup to create a backup of them, copy that backup to a flash drive, then on the new PC do the same thing but Import from your flash drive.

What is a good firefox addon to save massive number of pictures on separated links?
Q. I know there are lots of firefox addons that help manage saving pictures, but what I am specifically looking for is, one which can allow me to simply paste the picture link and it will download the picture from that link. Reason being, the pictures I am saving is has their own individual link and NOT on the same page itself.

A. In the location field of Firefox, type: about:config Press Return. You will see a long list of parameters. In the "Filter" field at top, type: browser.download.manager.show When Starting (That is "browser. download. manager. show When Starting" but without the spaces. Yahoo Answers is wacky about not allowing long "words") Where you see "true", double-click to change it to "false". (By the way, this isn't a Mac thing. You need to do the exact same thing in Firefox for Windows or Linux.)

How to save your Firefox bookmarks on your computer?
Q. I'm having some problems with Firefox, so I want to uninstall it and then reinstall it. But I want to save all my bookmarks, so can I save my bookmarks to my computer, and then import them back to Firefox once I reinstall it? Thanks for the help.
Asked by Bena - Mon Dec 15 21:08:26 2008 - Other - Computers - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Don't worry about saving them. Unless you delete Firefox's data directory, they'll be there when you reinstall. If you still want to save them, they're at: In Windows XP: c:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your profile number.default\bookmarks.html In Windows Vista: c:\Users\your username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your profile number.default\bookmarks.html Come to think of it, reinstalling Firefox from the ground up might give you a different profile number, so knowing where the bookmarks file is is a good idea. Hope that helps.

How can I get Firefox to save a webpage from the local files, rather than downloading it from the Internet?
Q. There's an interesting webpage that has just been deleted, but thanks to the miracle of hibernation, it's still open in Firefox. The problem is, when I save it, it seems to attempt to retrieve the page from its source on the internet, which no longer exists. Is there any way I can configure Firefox to save the locally-held files instead?

A. It fair to say that the site is already saved in the Firefox cache, its just a case of finding it. type about:cache into your address bar, this brings up a cache 'browser' it gives details of where Firefox saves its cache.

Asked by alin_borca - Fri Mar 6 13:01:58 2009 - Software - 2 Answers - Comments

A. I'm not sure if this would help (but it did on another one I supported): Go to Start > Run (In Vista press [WINDOWS]+R). Enter %APPDATA% now and press Enter. Access the folder Mozilla / Firefox / Profiles / ???.default. There should be a file in it named prefs.js. Rename this file into prefs_old.js or something else. Now, after you restarted Firefox, the issue should be resolved.

There you have it! Or 1. You can use the uninstaller tool to uninstall the applation 2. Run an antispyware software 3. Scan the registry Hope can help you! :)

A. Firefox has an option under "Tools" called "Downloadhelper" If you're on a page that has a video running like Youtube or whatever it will allow you to save that file into a directory in your computer. If you don't see DLH under Tools you may need to go into Tools then Options and add that handy item to your browser.

Q. I have asked several questions, and many of the replies suggest that I consider FIREFOX. I'm not sure what it is - probably a browser. Is it similar to Netscape and Internet Explorer? What are its good features and its bad features?

A. Firefox IS a browser, published by Mozilla, that has been competing with Internet Explorer for the past couple years. It's actually a pretty cool browser that has turned out to nab more of the market than I think most people anticipated. Good features: Great pop-up and spyware protection. This is also partly due to the fact that the vast majority of viruses and spyware are written FOR Explorer, which most people are running. Probably the best feature of Firefox is tabbed browsing, which opens up multiple windows within a single window so that your taskbar doesn't get crowded with all of the webpages you're navigating between. Also, from their website...I think this is pretty cool: "Firefox 1.5 delivers easier navigation for everyone,… [cont.]

A. Try installing a slightly older version. I have already chosen 3.0.4 from the list which is the version directly before 3.0.5 (the current version). You can choose any version from the list, but I would recommend that you do not go any lower than version 2.0. Mozilla Firefox Version 3.0.4:

How can I get Firefox 3 to stop logging me out everytime I close the browser?
Q. I close my browser often for various reasons, and having to repeatedly log into my accounts like Facebook, Yahoo, Gmail, and etc, is very inconvenient and getting gold. Firefox 2 never did this, just my current Firefox 3.
Asked by Ladeda - Thu Jul 30 17:20:24 2009 - Software - 2 Answers - 2 Comments

A. It's logging you out because it's deleting all the tracking cookies that websites have planted on your computer. That is a very GOOD thing! However, Facebook, Yahoo, Gmail, etc all use cookies, too. Find where you can set your "Preferences" or "Options" and then find where you can allow certain cookies to remain on the computer. I'm running FF 3.5 and can't recall at this time the exact path to take to get there. It's either under Edit or Tools. Once you find Preferences or Options go to Privacy and then under the Cookies section set your Exceptions to allow the particular sites you want to stay logged into. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
