What stops the mast of a sailboat from getting struck with lightning?
Q. We have a 35 foot sail boat with a 40 foot mast. It is the tallest sailboat in the marina. A couple of weeks ago I spent a few of nights on it during a lightning storm. It is a 1969 (I think), and it has never once been struck by lightning (otherwise all of the stock wires from the old sound system that we just pulled out would have been melted). What stops sail boats with metal mast from getting struck by lightning?

A. There are lots of theories, but little research in lightning protection for boats. It's hard to get good data on what does and does not keep lightning from hitting sailboat mast. I do know it does happen...someti mes blowing up equipment ...sometimes not. I wish you continued Good Luck!

What stops a landlord from assigning tenants of all their duties in a lease/contract?

How long can you keep a Pokemon from evolving before it stops trying?
Q. I want to hold off on evolving my Larvitar until it reaches lvl 50. But I read somewhere that after awhile your Pokemon stops trying to evolve. Is this true? I know if you have an Everstone they won't evolve, but if you just keep hitting B will it ever stop trying to evolve? Thanks!

Q. Just wondering how long the "bottle neck" effect happens after just one car stops and then goes on the highway. A rough estimate would be good, just interested to know. Ok, sorry for the lack of detail. Mainly wondering if one car stops during morning rush hour where there are very few gaps between cars traveling at 60mph on a 3-lane highway.

How to build a car that stops on its own?
Q. For science class, we have been assigned to build a car with a battery and a motor that goes 10 feet and then stops. Q. For science class, we have been assigned to build a car with a battery and a motor that goes 10 feet and then stops. You are not allowed to attach a string to the car that stops it once the string streches out or anything like that, the car has to stop without anything touching it or being attached to it. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. Any ideas? Your answers are greatly appreciated!

A. Get some batteries of similar quality. Measure its power stored using methods from Make sure they are all the same, or you can simply discharge the higher ones to bring it down. This is to make all the batteries same. (lets call this a full battery) Use one to power up the motor and time how long it last. So, if all the batteries have the same power, all should power the motor for equally long. With this timing, use it to calculate the number of revolutions the motor would have made by: revolutions=RPM *timing With your wheel size, and fix distance of 10 feet, you can calculate how many rounds your axle should turn. Q. i know that in a transistor you can either have current ( ordered movement of the electrons) or you may not; what particle or else stops the electrons from moving and closes the circuit?

A. Silicon is a lousy conductor of electricity. It's properties are changed by doping it with other materials to create a "semi-conductor ". Here's a really good, simple explanation of how this works: (In the "SOURCE" It explains a diode-but the same principle applies to transistors.

What stops someone from creating a fake insurance document for 6 months?
Q. If police don't have the general ability to check car insurance, what stops someone from signing up for insurance while doing yearly registration, then after the 6 month period ends just photo shopping the date to be good for another 6 months? Basically only having insurance for purposes of getting a valid registration every year than letting it expire until the new year. Is there anything in place that can stop people from doing this?

A. The states in my area require you to file proof with the state DMV. Your insurance company does this for you. If the DMV does not have insurance on file, it could show up on your driving status when the officer runs your information through the computer.
